Hubby and I just got back from a sweet ass vacation to New Orleans. In addition to touring graveyards, wandering the garden district and hearing some amazing music we also had the privilege of eating and drinking our way through the Big Easy.
But now the vacation is over and it is back to reality.
I always preach that one of the reasons I live my day to day life the way I do is so that when I go on vacation I am COMPLETELY on vacation. That means that while I am taking a holiday from my normal day to day life my sense of discipline takes a holiday as well. Any discipline I have for all things food, drink and my ability to exercise checks out the minute I check in to my hotel.
But just like any vacation this lack of discipline must come to an end and the most important thing you can do upon your return home is to get back on track. Once you walk through your front door you need to realize that fun time is over. If you don’t then you will just keep finding excuse after excuse to keep ordering that side of fries and face fuck an eclair everyday.
One of the things I like to do upon our return from any trip is to re-calibrate my system by doing a 1-2 week South Beach Diet induction. This means easy on the carbs and heavy on lean protein. So for breakfast this means alot of eggs. Alot of eggs. Nothing but eggs. Eggs, and eggs and eggs.
In my attempt to keep breakfast eggs egg-citing (Uck, I know) I have come up with a healthy, nourishing, cleansing and hearty breakfast. My Avocado & Egg White dish contains the ingredients to not only bust up the mundane breakfast routine but add a nice twist to your morning chow.
You probably know that eggs are high in lean protein and low in carbohydrates but did you know that they are also a great hangover food? Eggs are high in cysteine, which helps the body detoxify and break down the alcohol. Eggs basically help to mop up the toxins left over from a little too much from the night before. And after a week in New Orleans these eggs will be mopping up quite a bit.
Please, next time you go on vacation go a little crazy. You have earned the time off. And don’t sweat the fact that while on vacation you may be mainlining pizza, having a breakfast chardonnay and not moving from your chaise except to jump in the pool. Remember, once you get back home you WILL get back to your routine and you WILL do more than enough sweating when you get back to hitting the gym.
Trust me. The only time you should sweat on vacation is when you see your bar bill.
