May Playlist

It is around this time of year that I start to think about my “Songs of the Summer”.  Sometimes it takes until Labor Day for me to have it figured out.  Sometimes, like this time, a song or even several songs present themselves before Memorial Day even arrives.

“Songs of the Summer” is a song or maybe two or three that will take you back to those hot nights and cold beers of years gone by. It is a song you may play over and over again today and still not be sick of it by the time next summer rolls around.  For me last year it was Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”, Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (Please can we not forget about Ryan Lewis!!) “Can’t Hold Us”.  I can also make the argument for Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” but let’s not get the list too inflated.

I played the shit out of those songs last year and, I have to admit, by the end of the year “Get Lucky” was starting to get a little tedious.  But now when I hear “Get Luky” not only do I appreciate the duo it came from but I know where the song takes me.

This year I have a few contenders which I think are pretty solid.  But we’ll see come the start of football if any of these guys hold up.

But regardless of whether or not I am singing “1,2,3.  1,2,3, drink” and making crazy hand motions all through the dog days it is definitely time to grab your sunblock, your beer coozies and BBQ tongs and lets get summer started.

  1. Red Lights – Tiesto
  2. Summer – Calvin Harris
  3. Chandelier – Sia
  4. Stay with Me – Sam Smith
  5. This is How We Roll – Florida Georgia Line
